Aircraft circling above St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region were cleared to land on the evening of July 5.
Rosaviatsiya (the Federal Air Transport Agency) reported at 17:40 that Pulkovo was once again accepting arriving and departing flights. At that time, at least six flights were circling over the airport.
Landing and takeoff restrictions had been introduced just over an hour earlier, after the governor of the Leningrad Region, Alexander Drozdenko, warned of the danger of UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) in the region’s airspace.
The sky above the St. Petersburg airport had been closed twice during the previous night. The air hub resumed operations at around 5:30 in the morning, and throughout the day has been gradually returning to its normal schedule under heightened alert.
Twenty flights were redirected to alternate airfields. According to readers, some passengers are still waiting at Sheremetyevo for their flights to St. Petersburg, which have been delayed again due to the restrictions.
